Opera Software AS is a privately held company headquartered in Oslo, Norway. It develops the Opera web browser for mobile and desktop operating systems. Opera is the everyday browser of choice for more than 350 million people. It also provides services in the areas of Mobile Internet and Search; Mobile Payments and Remittances; Data Compression; and Artificial Intelligence.
The company changed ownership when Otello (at the time Opera Software ASA) sold its web browser and consumer businesses along with the Opera brand to a Chinese group of investors in 2016 with the deal completing in November of that year.
On July 27, 2018, Opera Software went public on the NASDAQ stock exchange, raising $115 million in its initial public offering.
Opera was founded in 1995 in Norway on the idea that everyone would browse the web on any device. For more than 20 years our browsers have been helping millions of people access the internet to read, create, laugh, and play. We continued to make our browsers smaller and faster and pioneered innovations such as tabs or speed dial, which have since become something we find in all web browsers.
