Palladium, a global leader in positive impact, is seeking a Strategy Director to join Propcom+, a groundbreaking FCDO-funded program transforming Nigeria’s rural economy.

About Propcom+

Propcom+ is a groundbreaking FCDO-funded initiative designed to transform Nigeria’s rural economy. This eight-year program focuses on supporting climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture and forestry, ultimately improving the lives of millions.

About the Role:

As the Propcom+ Strategy Director, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the program’s direction and ensuring its success. You’ll be a core member of the senior leadership team, providing strategic oversight and guidance across all workstreams.

What You’ll Do:

  • Chart the Course: Develop and communicate a clear strategic vision for Propcom+, ensuring all activities contribute to a cohesive and impactful program.
  • Technical Expertise: Lead the technical team in designing, delivering, and evaluating climate-smart market-based interventions.
  • Market Maestro: Identify new sub-sectors for Propcom+ investment and guide the development of a diverse portfolio of interventions.
  • People Leader: Foster a collaborative and high-performing technical team, driving professional development and ensuring excellent work quality.
  • Stakeholder Champion: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, agricultural entrepreneurs and industry players.
  • Project Management Guru: Oversee timely delivery of all technical outputs, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and value for money.

Who You Are:

  • A seasoned professional with 15+ years of experience in economic growth programs, agricultural development, food security, or private sector development.
  • A strategic thinker with a proven track record in market systems development, business model design, and attracting private sector investment.
  • Possess strong technical expertise in entrepreneurship, MSME development, and investment finance.
  • Adept at project management, risk management, and financial management.

Job Description: Strategy Director – Propcom+ Program

Job Summary: The Strategy Director for the UKAid funded Propcom+ Program implemented by the Palladium Group is part of the senior leadership team and plays a pivotal role in providing strategic leadership and direction to ensure the effective design, implementation, and evaluation of climate-smart market-based interventions. Reporting to the Team Leader, the Strategy Director is an internally facing role and oversees the development and execution of strategies aimed at transforming Nigeria’s rural economy, addressing environmental challenges, and enhancing the resilience of smallholder farmers and rural entrepreneurs. This is a full-time role based in Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategy Development:
    • Be the point of contact for all strategy and workstream discussions on P1 and P2
    • Lead the formulation and communication of clear strategic visions for the Propcom+ Program, ensuring alignment with program objectives and client requirements.
    • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the P1 and P2 technical teams in the design, delivery, and evaluation of climate-smart market-based interventions.
    • Accountable for annual strategic plans; technical and operational workplans and budgets; and other plans as required

 2. Technical Leadership

    • Apply the principles of market systems development in the identification, selection, design and facilitation of a portfolio of interventions that lead to thriving and transformed rural markets
    • Identify new sub-sectors/markets for investment and provide technical guidance to the team in researching opportunities.
    • Oversee the development of diverse climate-smart market interventions and maintain a pipeline of intervention opportunities.
    • Lead the Market Team (e.g. Workstream Leads /Portfolio Managers/Intervention Officers) in maintaining a pipeline of intervention, opportunities and pilot schemes in the Tier 1 and Tier 2 states

        3. People Management:

    • In collaboration with the Senior leadership, foster a cohesive and collaborative team environment.
    • Contribute to overall leadership of the programme as part of the senior management team
    • Contribute to professional development initiatives, and ensure effective staff planning and recruitment.
    • Ensure ongoing professional development of Workstream Leads/Tier Leads, particularly in relation to market systems development, business consulting skills and deal-making.

        4. Team Management:

    • Manage an agile team of staff, consultants, and subcontractors, ensuring high-quality outputs, on-the-job capacity building, and adherence to project timelines.
    • Provide guidance to the Market Team in maintaining a pipeline of intervention opportunities and pilot schemes in Tier 1 and Tier 2 states.
    • Work closely with the MERL Director to promote transparency and support team to collect MERL data.

         5. Stakeholder Management:

    • Oversee the technical team in actor mapping and management of the agricultural entrepreneurship and MSME ecosystem
    • Forge strategic alliances with industry players, government representatives, and technical advisors, supporting the creation of public-private partnerships to drive sustainable development outcomes.
    • Maintain excellent relationships with the Leadership Team, Technical Advisors, and industry stakeholders.

         6. Project Management:

    • Lead client reporting on programme results, activities, recommendations and lessons learned.
    • Ensure timely delivery of technical outputs, with quality and cost demonstrating value for money across the portfolio
    • Ensure that risks are minimized, company policies, processes, and procedures are adhered to and the project is compliant with client policies, rules and regulations..
    • Track program results, and provide timely and accurate reporting on program activities generating evidence for decision making.

 

Key Competencies / Experience:

  • Master’s degree in economics, Agric-economics, Finance/Investment, Project Management, Marketing, Strategic Management, or Business Administration.
  • Over 15 years of relevant experience supporting economic growth programs, agricultural development, MSME agribusiness, and private sector development.
  • Experience in management consulting, undertaking industry analysis and growth projections, business model designs, market entry strategies and attracting investments into new business areas
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, effective interpersonal communication, and strong team-building abilities.
  • Proven track record in market development, entrepreneurship, investment finance, and project management.
  • Experience developing new markets/products/services and scaling private sector investments into proven models.
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills, with experience in donor-funded projects and FCDO/USAID environments.

Location: Abuja, Nigeria (with frequent travel within the country, particularly to the Northern region)
